HOUSTON -- The University of Texas at Austin ordered the evacuation of all campus buildings on Friday morning after receiving a bomb threat, school officials said.

"Immediately evacuate all buildings and get as far away as possible. More information to come," said an alert posted online and sent to students by the university.

"We received a bomb threat this morning from a man claiming to be part of al-Qaida," said Gary Susswein, a spokesman for the university.

"He was saying there was a bomb on campus. Out of an abundance of caution, we're evacuating all buildings, making sure all buildings are secure," the spokesman added.

The call of bomb threat was made about 8:30 am to a main number at the campus visitor center, according to an online report by The Houston Chronicle.
