Fire rages in Brooklyn residential building

NEW YORK - A massive fire ripped through a residential building in Brooklyn of New York City on Thursday, causing at least 15 injuries, local authorities said.

The six-alarm fire started from the roof of the 7-story building on New York Avenue of Brooklyn around 10 am Thursday, and the roof then collapsed onto the floor below, according to the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). Video footage from the scene showed large, dark smoke columns rising from the building.

FDNY officials said that around 200 firefighters were sent to battle the fire, and that at least 15 minor injuries have been reported. Several firefighters were being treated for heat exhaustion.

A latest twitter release by the FDNY said that the fire had been brought under control by 1:45 pm Thursday.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
