(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-07-05 09:05

CHICAGO - A freight train on Wednesday derailed near the Northbrook-Glenview border in North Chicago, in the US state of Illinois, causing a small bridge to collapse, local media reported.

The train, which was hauling coal to a utility plant in Wisconsin, another state north to Illinois, derailed on Union Pacific tracks in the afternoon, with four of its 138 cars derailing, reported Chicago Tribune, quoting a Union Pacific source as saying.

Union Pacific Spokesman Mark Davis said a small fire occurred after the incident, but there were no reported injuries from the derailment.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
