Photos of stashed cash, gold released
Photos of stashed cash and gold at the home of an official in Hebei province were released on Saturday. Ma Chaoqun hid 120 million yuan ($19.5 million) in cash at his house, according to the local anti-corruption watchdog. Disciplinary authorities also found 37 kilograms of gold and 68 property ownership certificates, according to a statement released on Wednesday by the Hebei Provincial Commission of Discipline Inspection.
Although he had millions hidden in his home, he wasn't a spendthrift. He allegedly ate only one bowl of noodles and dined alone. Parts of his stashed cash got mildewed. Seven of his 68 properties are in downtown Beijing, and the rests in Qinhuangdao.
The case is under investigation.
