Bicycle flies

Black Light Theater Srnec will present The Flying Bicycle at Shanghai Children's Theater. The Czech Republic company is the world's first black light theater and is founded and directed by Jiri Srnec. The company uses a simple device known as "the black cabinet" often used by magicians. On stage, black-clad puppeteers seem to disappear against the black background, creating an effect of objects moving on their own. The story of the Flying Bicycle tells the story of a young inventor enthralled by the wings of birds. He becomes obsessed by the idea of a flying bicycle. After many attempts and failures, he finally realizes that only love can defy gravity.

Murder mystery

A Chinese production of Agatha Christie's detective story And Then There Were None will be staged. In the play, 10 people are tricked into visiting a remote island. They are the only people there and all are killed, one after another, in a manner that seems to parallel the deaths listed in a nursery rhyme. The play by Shanghai Dramatic Art Center is so highly anticipated that the tickets sold out weeks ahead of the show's opening night. The theater has had to sell standing tickets to accommodate more people.

7:30 pm, Tuesday-Sunday, July 11-Aug 11. Art Theater, Shanghai Dramatic Arts Center, 1F, 288 Anfu Road, Shanghai. 021-6473-0123.
