China became the top destination for Japanese tourists, while Japan reports a big surge in Chinese tourists, peopledaily.com.cn reported on Thursday.

"The Japan-China tourism exchange has a fundamental change," said Zhang Xilong, chief delegate of the National Tourism Administration of the People's Republic of China in Tokyo. "China has allowed Japanese tourists to travel in all regions of China and issued long-term multiple entry visas to promote tourism to China."

Meanwhile, Chinese tourists to Japan has doubled in the last 10 years, as China's economy has taken off and people have more money to spend, Zhang added.

Zhang said if Japan continues to adjust its tourism policy toward China, it will see a more prosperous Japan-China tourism ties.
