BEIJING - China and the Asia-Pacific region have become a community of shared destiny, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in Beijing Wednesday.

Wang made the remark during a press briefing about the 22nd APEC economic leaders meeting to be held in Beijing in November.

Wang said the establishment of APEC has led to a new structure in the world's geo-economic layout, adding that it has become a major platform for cooperation of the Asia-Pacific region as a whole.

Wang said China has accelerated the process of integration into the Asia-Pacific region since it joined APEC in 1991, with the majority of the country's trade and foreign investment coming from APEC members. He said China has contributed more than 50 percent of economic growth in Asia, with one-percentage-point growth of China's economy driving up the Asia economy by 0.3 percent.

In comparison with the world's other areas, the Asia-Pacific region has become the world's anchor of stability and base for development since it enjoys overall stability and vigorous economic growth, Wang said.

"China is playing its due important role in this development," the minister said.

He said as a member of the Asia-Pacific family, China has always regarded promoting prosperity and stability in the region as its own responsibilities.

"China has been working on playing a constructive role in regional affairs," Wang said.

He said the Chinese leadership is working in a more proactive manner to create a favorable external environment, increase interconvertability between the opportunities for China and the world and playing the role of major responsible power in regional and international affairs.

Wang said China is working to build a new Asia-Pacific region that is peaceful, stable, cooperative, prosperous, open and inclusive.
