Even classical music is embracing 3D technology and it's music to the ears of the audience.

A three-dimensional concert took place on Monday at the open square of the Shanghai International Shipping and Financial Service Center on the north part of the Bund.

The Shanghai Symphony played under the baton of renowned conductor Chen Xieyang. For the first time weave field synthesis (WFS) and 3D amplification technology was used outdoors, to present an extraordinary feast of music in front of the evening landscape on both sides of the Huangpu River.

The event saw 134 voice boxes hung according to scientific spatial design.

The audio technology presented such high quality audio effects as to compete with the traditional concert hall. Prof. Lu Xiaoxing with Shanghai Conservatory of Music said that "this shows the direction of the future audio development."

The show is part of the China Shanghai International Arts Festival, and the Shanghai Symphony plans to make the outdoor concerts a regular event in the future.
