Shanghai police may establish an economic crimes investigation department in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone, according to a report in the Oriental Morning Post on Thursday.
Li Weijun, deputy director of the economic investigation team at Shanghai Public Security Bureau, said the team has finished a preliminary report on the risks likely to emerge in the zone in relation to financial management activities such as tax administration. The team has compiled some suggestions and countermeasures to help deal with such threats.
The tentative plan of setting up the investigation department is based in part on the huge volume of business expected there.
