WTO to co-sponsor China fair for 1st time

The 17th China International Fair for Investment and Trade will be held from Sep 8-11 in Xiamen, Fujian province.

Widely known as the world's largest investment exposition in scale, the CIFIT has been an annual event held in Xiamen since 1997. This year's event will be co-sponsored by the World Trade Organization for the first time, bringing the number of participating international economics agencies to six.

According to the CIFIT organizing committee, Harsha Vardhana Singh, deputy director-general of the WTO, will lead a delegation to the fair and give a keynote speech at an investment forum.

The exhibition floor space will surpass 100,000 square meters, and more than 600 organizations and institutions from some 110 countries and regions are expected to take part in the event, according to Zhang Canmin, deputy mayor of Xiamen.

A cross-Straits tourism expo and an overseas Chinese entrepreneur fair will be held concurrently with the CIFIT.

The CIFIT, approved by the State Council and sponsored by China's Ministry of Commerce, is currently China's only nationwide international investment promotion event aimed at two-way investment.
