Editor's note: Liu Jun, 33, from Beijing, found her "Mr Right" through a matchmaking website. The couple now has a 3-month-old baby girl.

I never thought I'd find my husband on the Internet, but this miracle happened shortly after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

At the time, I was 26. Many women are married by this age, so I was starting to become a little anxious about my future.

I suddenly remembered I had registered an account with Century Love for fun in 2006, so I logged on again and took a look.

When I opened my account inbox on the website, I saw many messages from people wanting to be friends with me, which came as a surprise.

I had registered using my real name, hoping to find true love with a man who also wanted to disclose his real information, but unfortunately most of them did not.

Finally, I found a man who registered with his real identity and matched the majority of my requirements for a dream husband.

To tell the truth, I had concerns about dating a stranger, so I did a lot of preparation, such as registering a new QQ (instant messaging software) account and a new cellphone number. I used these new numbers and selected a KFC restaurant for our first date.

Of course, I was afraid of being cheated, although I thought he might be a good man after communicating with him online.

I was lucky. He did not hide any information and was truly sincere.

But I still suggest that women should be very careful when deciding to meet a man for the first time, especially one through a matchmaking website.

Such a website merely provides a chance to meet somebody, but is not 100 percent safe.

Enhancing awareness to protect ourselves and paying attention to dating are really important for those who want to find love on the Internet.

Liu Jun was talking to China Daily reporter Cao Yin.
