Top political advisor calls for hard work

BEIJING - Top political advisor Jia Qinglin called on senior political advisors to work hard to achieve the goals that were set at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).

Jia said it an important political task of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to work to realize the goals and tasks that the Party congress put forward.

He made his comments at the 19th session of the 11th Standing Committee of the CPPCC National Committee, which opened on Monday.

Jia, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, urged senior political advisors to contribute to build a well-off society in China.

Liu Yunshan, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was invited to attend the meeting and deliver a report on the 18th CPC national congress.

Liu praised the contributions that non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce as well as those without party affiliation had made in putting forward proposals to the political report to the 18th CPC national congress.

Liu also briefed participants with details concerning the Party congress.

During the 18th CPC national congress, a week-long event that closed on November 14., Hu Jintao outlined development objectives such as doubling China's 2010 GDP and per capita income by 2020.

The CPPCC serves as a key mechanism for multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC. Members of the CPPCC are representatives of the CPC and non-Communist parties, people without party affiliation and representatives of people's organizations and ethnic minorities.
