KUNMING - Heavy fog caused a big backlog of flights at an airport in Kunming, capital of the southwestern province of Yunnan, stranding nearly 7,500 travelers on Thursday.

Low visibility due to misty weather has canceled 440 of the 716 flights scheduled to take off on Thursday at Kunming Changshui International Airport as of 10 pm, airport operators said.
The airport has initiated an emergency response to the massive flight delays.
