Heavy fog and snowstorms triggered by cold snaps are disrupting traffic and delaying flights in Northeast China, the Ministry of Transport said.

The ministry said that as of 8 am, at least 14 highways had been partially closed across the country due to the heavy snow.

In Shenyang, one of the areas hit by the snowstorms, the Taoxian International Airport had been closed. Nine flights had been cancelled and 47 delayed as of 10 am.

The airport was expected to reopen at about 2 pm, depending on the weather conditions.

Most flights to Shenyang have been cancelled or delayed.

According to the weather report released by the China Meteorological Administration on Monday, heavy snow will turn to mild snow by Tuesday in Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang provinces.
