Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the US not to "make trouble out of nothing", regarding recent reports that the US navy may send warships within 12 nautical miles of China's islands and reefs in the South China Sea.

"If it's true, we advise that the US side should think twice before any act, do not act rashly, and do not make trouble out of nothing," Wang said, adding that China is following up on this issue.

Wang made the remarks to journalists when attending a seminar in Beijing on Tuesday regarding the coming meeting of the leaders of China, Republic of Korea and Japan.
