Veterans share China experience with newcomers

Alumni from the Ameson Education & Cultural Exchange Foundation's Ameson Year in China (AYC) program share their experiences in China with this year's participants at a welcome reception held in Washington on Thursday. This year's nearly 200 participants were chosen from among more than 800 applicants. They will be the third group Ameson has sponsored to teach in China for one year. The four alumni taught in different cities, such asNanjing, Wenzhou, and Qinhuangdao, mainly teaching mainly English or American culture at public elementary or secondary schools and universities. Addressing participants' and parents' questions, they talked about curriculum preparation, chatty taxi drivers, meals, Taobao and VPNs. Fedorah Philippeaux (second from right), who taught at Northeastern University two years ago and is now working at the US-Asian Institute, told China Daily she has a more relaxed and open view of China now that she has had many personal experiences there.
