2 killed in helicopter crash in C London

LONDON - Two people were killed and another two were injured after a helicopter crashed into a construction crane near Wandsworth Road, South of River Thames in Central London earlier on Wednesday.

"Two people confirmed dead at scene. Two have been taken to south London hospital - condition awaits," Metropolitan Police said on twitter.

London Fire Brigade said they received reports of a helicopter crash near Wandsworth Road in South Lambeth, south of River Thames in central London at 8 am.

Eight fire engines and four fire rescue units and around 60 firefighters plus officers are attending the situation. Firefighters have brought the fire under control, the fire service said in a statement.

Another four fire engines and two fire rescue units are also attending reports of a crane in a precarious position near the crash site on the high-rise building Saint Georges Whalf, the fire service said.

London's Air Ambulance has confirmed that the helicopter crashed does not belong to it. "Our medical team are at the incident. Our thoughts are with everyone involved," it said.
