ROK aid group to send food aid to DPRK

SEOUL - A private aid group from the Republic of Korea (ROK) said Friday it has been given a nod for food aid to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

The group, called the Korea Association of People Sharing Love, plans to send bread and baby food worth 59 million won ($54,086) to the DPRK's northwestern city of Shinuiju in three months.

The permission was granted by ROK's unification ministry, which oversees inter-Korean relations including humanitarian affairs.

Despite suspended cross-border exchanges following 2010 border clashes, the ministry recently allowed a number of local private organizations to send aid to the DPRK to help the country recover from flood damage.
