Toyota to cut back production of China-bound cars

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-09-25 10:17

TOKYO - Toyota Motor Corp. announced Tuesday it will scale back production of automobiles bound for China as sales have plunged in the country amid a simmering territorial row.

The industry giant resumed operations at all of its nine plants Monday in Chinese mainland for the first time in one week after partially suspending them, but with reduced output, company officials said.

The two countries are embroiled in a bitter spat over the Diaoyu Islands in the East China Sea, which has cut into the business of the automaker in China, leading to plummeting sales and piles of inventories.
