CANBERRA - Australian Defence Minister Stephen Smith leave Australia Monday to visit Japan for talks with his counterpart, Japanese Defence Minister Satoshi Morimoto in Tokyo, according to the Department of Defence.
This is Smith's first visit to Japan as Minister for Defence and his seventh visit as an Australian government minister.
This year is the 50th Anniversary of the modern bilateral defence relationship. And the 14 September 2+2 Meeting in Sydney with discussions on matters including regional co-operation and maritime issues including the South China Sea reflects the growing bilateral defence and security partnership in strength in recent years.
