Turkey sends reinforcements to Syrian border

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-07-23 09:02

ANKARA - Turkey on Sunday sent military reinforcements to its southeastern border with Syria, the Anatolia news agency reported.

The Turkish military deployed ground-to-air missiles to military barracks in the Nusaybin town of Mardin province, along the border with Syria, via a train that was loaded from a station in Mardin, said the report.

Tensions between Turkey and Syria hit a new low last month when the latter downed a Turkish jet in international airspace. Turkey earlier announced that it would no longer tolerate security threats from Syria along its border, further escalating tension.
