US says Iranian Navy quiet in Gulf

(Xinhua) Updated: 2012-06-28 09:35

WASHINGTON - US Navy's Operation Chief Jonathan Greenert on Wednesday said the Iranian Navy has been "relatively quiet" in their dealing with US Naval forces in the Gulf recently.

In a Pentagon briefing, Greenert said the Iranian Naval forces have been "professional and courteous, committing to the rules of the road."

"We really haven't had many, quote, 'confrontation.'" said Greenert, noting the US Navy has two aircraft carriers in the region, the Abraham Lincoln and the Enterprise "for some time," and they have been operating in or near the Strait of Hormuz.

Greenert also said the US Navy in the Gulf haven't changed their operational patterns dramatically.

US military has previously accused Iranian Naval forces of "provocations" in the past, saying Iranian speedboats have been operating too close to US warships.
