BEIJING - Vice Premier Hui Liangyu on Wednesday mourned the death of Crown Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia on behalf of the Chinese government at the country's embassy in Beijing.

Hui presented a wreath and signed a book of condolences.

Hui said China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Saudi Arabia and will work with the country to enhance strategic mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation and lift bilateral relations to a new high.

Saudi Ambassador to China Yahya A. S. Alzaid expressed his appreciation for China's condolences.

Senior officials with the General Office of China's State Council, Foreign Ministry, Ministry of Commerce, National Energy Administration, and State Administration for Religious Affairs were also present to offer their condolences.

Prince Nayef, 78, died in Geneva last Saturday after traveling to Switzerland to receive medical treatment.

Nayef was appointed as the crown prince by Saudi king Abdullah last October following the death of former Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. Nayef has served as the second deputy premier and interior minister of Saudi Arabia since 1975.
