LIMA - The bodies of 14 passengers including 11 foreigners killed in a recent helicopter crash in Mama Rosa mountain of the Peruvian Andes were found Sunday, local media reported.
A mountain rescue team from Peru's National Police (PNP) recovered the remains of the passengers at the site of the Wednesday crash, more than 4,900 meters above the sea level.
The complex terrain, intense snowfall and low temperature had hampered the rescue efforts.
Hector Dulanto, the PNP's southern regional police chief, said the charred bodies couldn't be recognized and the aircraft had been totally destroyed.
The public prosecutor office said DNA tests would be done later.
The victims included the pilot, the copilot and a citizen from Peru, eight passengers from South Korea, one from Holland, one from the Czech Republic and one from Sweden, who were carrying out studies for the building of a hydroelectric plant, when the crash occurred.
The helicopter departed on Wednesday from Mazuko town in Peru's southeast province of Madre de Dios for a two-and-a-half-hour flight to Marcapata, Cusco, but about 90 minutes later it went missing.
