Over 70 in Thailand infected with leptospirosis

BANGKOK - About 78 people in northeastern province of Surin have been found infected with leptospirosis which has until now killed four already, according to the province public health on Tuesday.

Dr Sa-ad Viracharoen, official of the Department of Health in Surin province, said that from January 1 to June 1 this year 78 incidences of leptospirosis infection were discovered and death toll reached four.

He said the disease spread rapidly because most of the people in the area are farmers.

Health officials in the province were instructed to do more publicity campaigns about how to prevent the infection.
