Enjoying the 'most exciting place in the world'

Since 1993, when Alistair Michie arrived in China as the private consultant to Sir Malcolm Williamson, CEO, Standard Chartered, he has not stopped traveling in the country.

Michie has visited the majority of its provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions.

He has been called a keen observer of China for more than 20 years. However, Michie is not just observing China, but is also devoting himself to it.

From providing consulting services to multinational companies to offering advice to the Chinese government and government-related agencies, the 67-year-old Scot has set himself deeply into China's development.

His close connections with the Chinese government put him in a better position to observe how China operates, and also give him the chance to offer constructive suggestions in his area of expertise, which is exactly what the Chinese government needs.

More than that, Michie has also helped the Chinese government to listen to more expert voices.

As one of the four consultants on the China's Foreign Experts Advisory Committee, he not only submits his own ideas but also recommends other foreign experts to do the same.
