Remember the stubborn old man in the movie 'Up' who refused to move out of his house? Meet his real-life counterpart.

A three-storey house in Yichang city, Hubei province now stands in a huge pit surrounded by construction rubble. According to the owner, his house was built in the 1990s and he was asked to move out by local authorities as part of urban planning.

Water and electricity to the house have been cut off for three years now because he has failed to reach an agreement with the local authorities to move out.

The reconstruction of the area is underway, causing great inconvenience to the owner's daily life. Now the family lives by the light of candles and carries water from a river over a kilometer away.
