Rise in salary should be worth it

According to documents freshly issued by the State Council, civil servants and other workers at State agencies have got salary hikes, while in surveys many civil servants have complained about their low incomes. Comments:

Many people oppose increasing the salaries of civil servants because they have all been tarred with the brush of corruption. If the authorities raise the salaries for civil servants, they need to strictly regulate them and continue the ongoing high pressure against graft first, so as to rally public support for the move.

Beijing Youth Daily, Jan 19

The rise in salaries for civil servants comes together with moves such as simplifying procedures and cutting redundant agencies, so as to relieve financial pressure.

Li Shi, a professor on income distribution at Beijing Normal University, Jan 15

Civil servants complain their salaries are lower than international standards. Please do not forget their services are far lower than international standards, and any ordinary citizen will have had the experience of being scolded by them when applying for any certificate. Civil servants need to raise the quality of the service they provide to be worth higher salaries.
