British pop sensation Lily Allen has been charged and bailed over an alleged assault on a photographer outside a London club.

The 21-year-old singer, who rose to fame on the back of her MySpace page, presented herself to police yesterday.

A Scotland Yard spokesperson told media: "At 9.30am yesterday, a 21-year-old woman attended a central London police station by appointment.

"She was arrested in connection with an allegation of assault. She has been bailed to return on a date in late July.''

The alleged incident took place outside London's Wardour Club in Soho on March 13.

Allen, who earlier this year cancelled a number of US tour dates citing tiredness, is due to tour Australia in August.
