Versace, an Italian brand, and Coach, a US brand, are in the spotlight for falsely implying Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan are "independent countries". Versace produced a T-shirt listing Hong Kong and Macao as such, while Coach produced one implying the same of Taiwan. Both companies have acknowledged their mistake, apologized and recalled the products.
Editor's note: Earlier this year, a college student was asked to spend 80 yuan ($12.5) to preserve his snacks, or eat them at the gate or dispose of them himself before he entered Shanghai Disney Resort. The student, who believes his rights as a consumer have been violated, has taken the Disney park to court, demanding that the park's rule that prohibits visitors from bringing in food be invalidated. Prior to the 12th round of Sino-US trade talks in Shanghai on July 30-31, many hoped the Chinese and US negotiators would put the Sino-US trade negotiation process back on the right track.
