Continuous rainstorms swept through a number of areas in China on Tuesday, soaking residents with renewed troubles.

At 11:30 am Tuesday, floods followed heavy rains in You-yang county of Chongqing municipality, pouring into the Ma'anshan Tunnel and trapping many cars and buses, the Chongqing Times reported.

At least 150 people have been rescued from their vehicles, the report said, adding that other rescue efforts are continuing.

Two people were killed and another is missing after a rainstorm pounded a county in Guizhou province from Monday evening to Tuesday morning, Xinhua News Agency reported.

The county seat of Zhijin was inundated by floods. Electrical power, traffic and communication in the area were disrupted, the agency quoted the local publicity department as saying.

As of 11:44 am Tuesday, 8,685 residents had been relocated to safe places. The storm flooded 783 homes and damaged 1,223 hectares of cropland, it said.

The storm also triggered 60 mudslides in Zhijin. Fifteen vehicles were reported to have been washed away by floods, and all the township's communications were cut off.

On Tuesday, about 70,000 people were relocated in Yangxin county, Hubei province after a dam collapsed due to torrential rainfall. No casualties were reported by press time.
