The recent booming stock market has made some wives feel lonely as their husbands prefer to study the stock market at night. One such wife, Li Dan in Wuhan, complained that her husband has not slept with her since March, preferring to stay on the sofa studying the stock market. Baby sitter held over child abuse

A baby sitter in Hangzhou has been detained by police for allegedly abusing a child she looked after. The 51-year-old woman, surnamed Zhang, was hired to look after a 3-year-old boy in October. She suddenly resigned on March 21. Her employer, surnamed Yu, found more than 30 scars on her son the next day when she took him to get a haircut. Yu called the police. Zhang told them she beat the child because she was angry with him.

A chef surnamed Deng in Chengdu was recently arrested on suspicion of putting poppy capsules in food to make it more tasty. The local food administration received complaints from customers. An investigation revealed some 0.5 kg of dried poppy and oil containing dried poppy. Deng confessed that he had cooked with the oil and poppy capsules.

BMW owner's anger proves costly

A BMW owner surnamed Liu in Fuyang paid 140,000 yuan ($22,870) on Saturday to the mother of a 6-year-old boy who scratched his car.
