BEIJING - Taiwan compatriots are welcome to participate in commemorating activities for the 70th anniversary of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression on the Chinese mainland, a spokesperson said Wednesday.

Fan Liqing, spokesperson of the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office said that the victory belonged to the entire nation.

She said that this year marked the 70th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the victory of World Anti-Fascist War.

The mainland will hold a military parade to commemorate the victory, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said earlier this month. Other events to mark the anniversary include a rally, reception and evening gala in Beijing.

"We hope that our cross-Straits compatriots remember the history and recall martyrs through the events, and commit themselves together to boost the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation," said Fan.

Earlier this week, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said an invitation will be extended to the leaders of all relevant countries and regions as well as international organizations who are sincere about coming.
