Shohrat Zakir named acting chairman of Xinjiang

Shohrat Zakir, director of the standing committee of the People's Congress of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, was appointed the acting chairman of Xinjiang, ts.net, the official regional government's website reported on Wednesday.

Media reported that Nur Bekri, former chairman, has been appointed as the head of the National Energy Administration, the country's top energy agency and deputy director of the National development and Reform Commission.

Shohrat, born in 1953 and a member of the Uygur ethnic group, has become the vice Party secretary of the Xinjiang Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) on Tuesday, replacing Nur.

Zhang Chunxian, Party chief of Xinjiang, said Shohrat has a firm political view, which is highly consistent with the CPC Central Committee. He also resolutely upholds national and ethnic unity.
