Xi urges police to contribute to advancing rule of law

BEIJING -- President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called on police to serve the people wholeheartedly, safeguard social equity and make greater contributions in advancing the rule of law.

Xi said police authorities are tasked with glorious missions as the nation is deepening its overall reform and advancing the rule of law.

He made the remarks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing while speaking to representatives of model police teams who received awards for their performance in serving the people.

Serving the people is a cherished tradition of the police force, who have made important contributions to national security, social stability and people's happiness for a long time.

Xi went on to hail police authorities' new achievements in cracking down on crimes, safeguarding security and serving the people since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC)in November 2012.

He encouraged award winners to work as a vital force in advancing the rule of law by adhering to strict and fair law enforcement and achieving new merits in their posts.

Premier Li Keqiang and Liu Yunshan, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, also attended the meeting.

A total of 100 police teams and 100 individual officers were given awards on Tuesday.
