A deputy dean of the Henan Agricultural University has been arrested for alleged fraud after some 300 students' admission certificates proved to be fake, according to a report by www.thepaper.cn on Monday.

The police also arrested the general manager of a training school, the report said, citing the official microblog of the Zhengzhou Public Security Bureau.

The university stated on its microblog on Oct 10 that its economy and administration college signed a cooperative agreement with the training school in April 2014 to provide services to students who intended to upgrade from junior college diplomas to undergraduate degrees through self-taught examinations.

However, the training school illegally used the name of the college to enroll junior college and university students by presenting itself as a chapter of the college without permission, the university administration said.

The microblog post said the university was also a victim in the incident and appealed to the students who were cheated not to besiege the campus.

A student told the news website that she had enrolled in the junior college of Qiongzhou University, but in mid-September she got a call from the economy and administration college of Henan Agricultural University, who guaranteed she could get a university degree from the college.

The cheated students, holding banners, staged a sit-in on the university campus after their admissions were refused, according to a report by the news website on Oct 9.

Local police said the case is still under investigation and they will protect the students' legal interests.
