An Advanced Seminar on Industry Development of Vegetables designed to train agricultural science and technical talent for Sri Lanka, has opened in Kunming, Yunnan province.

The two-week seminar, which opened on Sept 10, is sponsored by the China Foundation for Peace and Development and organized by Yunnan Agricultural University.

Fifteen representatives from Sri Lanka attended the seminar.

Zhu Jiang, vice-director of Yunnan Rural Cadres College, said the seminar would include lectures, case studies, field experience and discussions.

It will share the industry development experience of Yunnan horticulture and the cultivation techniques and industrialization of Yunnan's fruits, flowers and vegetables.

The seminar will also address the urgent problems of developing modern agriculture, such as financing and attracting business and marketing.

"The representatives will get opportunities to visit some modern production bases of vegetables, flowers and fruits in Yunnan. They will also visit agricultural demonstration gardens and exchange ideas with staff at leading agriculture industrialization enterprises of Yunnan," Zhu said.

Piyasena Tennekoon, an agricultural delegate from Sri Lanka representing the largest agricultural societies in Sri Lanka, said this is the first time he has attended training in another country.
