A wetland protection regulation will be implemented in Yunnan province in 2014.

According to the regulation, any activities held in the wetlands, including scientific expeditions, specimen collections and film shootings, must be approved by the wetland protection authorities. Those who contravene the regulation face fines ranging from 5,000 yuan ($824) to 50,000 yuan.

It also states that no organizations or individuals should introduce alien species to the wetlands, and the forestry department will distribute a book to visitors to make sure preventive measures are taken.

Yunnan province now has four wetlands of global significance.
