Meng Xiaoying clicked the order button on her computer screen at home to order a baby buggy from a foreign online marketplace on March 20.

The young Guangzhou mother said many overseas online marketplaces are now offering discounts and reduction of freight to attract buyers when Easter is drawing near.

“The baby carriage I ordered was reduced $150 compared with a month ago, and I do not want to miss the chance,” Meng told local media.

Meng, mother of a six-month-old daughter, is not alone.

Many Guangzhou housewives are now competing to order products from offshore online marketplaces, which are providing discounts to promote sales for Easter, which falls on March 31.

“Buying products only from Taobao, China’s popular online marketplace, you miss out,” Meng said.

Foreign brand baby milk powders and relevant baby products have been hot selling items on foreign online marketplaces after the bordering Hong Kong special administrative region limited sales of baby milk powder to visitors from the mainland early this year.

Meanwhile cosmetics, jewelry, fashion, shoes and bags from the foreign online marketplaces have also become favorite products for the growing number of Guangzhou online shoppers.
