A total of 268,500 yuan ($42,745) was raised at a charity auction organized by the Shanghai Women's Federation, Consular Spouses Shanghai and Shanghai Children's Foundation.

The funds will go to the Shanghai Children's Foundation to help underprivileged children.

The auction was held on March 7, the eve of the International Women's Day. Jewelry donated by 26 consulate generals in Shanghai and Shanghai's jewelry companies was auctioned.

Among them, a brooch named Inspiration of Bird's Nest, which was donated by Shanghai Laofengxiang Jewelry Co, was sold or 52,000 yuan.

Earlier this week, the nearly 100 pieces of jewelry were displayed at the Shanghai Museum of Arts and Crafts.

"The jewelry exhibition helps promote the cultural exchange and friendship between our countries," said Krista Reinhold, president of Consular Spouses Shanghai. "And the auction has made a great contribution to help needy children."
