China to digitalize civil air defense by 2020

NANCHANG - A senior official pledged on Monday to finish the construction of a digital managing system of China's civil air defense by 2020.

The system would cover a basic network of information exchange, as well as systems on alarming, commanding, rescue and integrated support, said Bai Jianjun, head of the national Office of Civil Air Defense, at a training session in East China's Jiangxi province.

As to the progress of the ongoing digitalization, Bai said that regional optical-fiber communication networks had been installed in over 80 percent of all the provincial regions in the past decade.

In addition, audible alarming systems had been equipped to over 95 percent of all the cities, said Bai.
