Traffic police in Zhengzhou, the capital of Central China's Henan province, caught a total of 1,793 vehicles violating traffic rules on Friday night during a crackdown against illegal driving activities.

More than 1,000 policemen were dispatched to crossroads near construction sites, where truck drivers and tricycles are more likely to break traffic rules, according to a report by Xinhua News Agency on Monday.

The crackdown was in response to a traffic accident on July 27 when a bulk cement truck crashed into a tricycle killing seven people and injuring 13.

A total of 106 bulk cement trucks were caught on Friday night breaking traffic rules, including running red traffic lights, being overloaded and other issues, Xinhua said.

A truck driver who ran a red light and was driving with slippers was fined by the policemen at about 9 pm for dangerous driving.

Deng Jinchao, an officer with the Zhengzhou traffic and patrol police, said that local police were going to keep a close eye on illegal driving activities, including speeding, driving without a license, running red lights and overloaded vehicles.
