NANJING - Police in East China's Jiangsu province said Tuesday that they have detained the driver of a tour bus on suspicion that his fatigue caused a crash that left 14 people dead and 20 other injured.

Wang Zhenwei, a man in his thirties, played computer games at Internet cafes late at night and only slept for a short while in two consecutive days before the accident, police said in a statement released Tuesday afternoon.

Wang slept for less than four hours Sunday morning, just hours before the crash, said the statement, adding that he also took crystal meth on Friday night.

Police said that Wang, who was only slightly injured in the crash, drove while tired and lost control of the vehicle, therefore should bear full responsibility for the accident.

Wang's bus was taking 31 Shanghai tourists to view peony blossom in Changshu city on Sunday, when it cut through highway barriers and collided head-on with a heavy truck coming in the opposite direction at 9:25 am.

Hospitalized after the incident, Wang tried to jump from the 11th floor of a hospital building on Sunday afternoon but was stopped by firefighters.
