More than 70 percent of people support the role of new or Internet-based media, according to a recent survey of 310 Shanghai-area residents.
The survey was conducted by Fudan University's Media and Public Opinion Research Center, which also asked people for their opinion of the just-concluded annual meetings of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
More than half of those polled said they were satisfied with this year's two sessions.
The survey suggested that the development of Internet media should be closely monitored. About 71 percent of respondents agreed that "Internet media can play a more critical role than traditional media in the function of democratic supervision".
