Beijing wants fewer cars; more are snapped up
Customers line up for purchases at a car dealer in Beijing at midnight around 23:35 on Thursday Dec 23, 2010. The capital city announced earlier that day it would limit the registration of new cars in 2011, triggering a car-buying frenzy. Many car dealers extended their business hours to midnight on Friday, a watershed timeline after which Beijing residents will have to start getting the limited 240,000 license plates through a lottery.
