Li Daochun demonstrates New Year painting in the Mianzhu style during the 5th China Beijing International Cultural & Creative Industry Expo (ICCIE) at China International Exhibition Center in Beijing, Nov 19, 2010. New Year painting is one of the more enduring folk arts in China, and one of the most well-known types comes from Mianzhu in Southwest China's Sichuan province. Li said this traditional art would be in peril without government support through programs such as the intangible cultural heritage protection. He says getting suitable coloring materials from plants and minerals is the most difficult task for this painting. Li learned the painting skills from his father Li Fangfu, a master of Mianzhu New Year painting. [Photo/chinadaily.com.cn]
