Bus crashes into store, several hurt

British emergency services said two people were trapped and several injured when a double-decker bus plowed into a store on a busy south London street. Transit officials said the bus was heading for the city's Waterloo station when it careened through the plate glass window of a kitchen shop in Lavender Hill in the Battersea area on Thursday.

Official holiday due to heat wave

The government has announced a mandatory official holiday for Thursday due to a heat wave, as temperatures hit 50 C. It is the first heat advisory issued by the government this summer. The public holiday applies to all government workers. Last on Thursday, the state-run Meteorological Department warned that temperatures in much of the country would reach 51 C.

Bomb dug up near nuke plant

A World War II-era bomb was found on Thursday during construction work near the wrecked Fukushima nuclear power plant. The plant's operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co, said that a worker spotted it while digging at a parking lot about 1 kilometer north of the reactors destroyed in a 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The parking lot is part of the sprawling nuclear plant complex.

275 new species of deep sea creatures

Researchers have discovered 275 new species of deep sea creatures off the coast of South Australia. Of the 275 species were new types of isopods, decapods and worms, all of which were found at depths between 200 meters and 4,000 meters. More than 63,000 specimens were collected over the four years of the study.
