President meets State Councillor

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta met visiting Chinese State Councillor and Defense Minister Chang Wanquan in Nairobi on Friday night. During the meeting, Chang said Kenya-China relations had a long history and both sides enjoyed long-term friendly cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, culture and defense. The visit aimed to implement the common consensus of the heads of the countries to push forward the intensified development of the two armies. Chang also met Raychelle Omamo, Kenya's defense minister.

Philippines

Power outages after quake

Large parts of the central Philippines remained without power days after a 6.5-magnitude quake shook the region and killed two people, authorities said on Saturday. Power plant facilities in the central island of Leyte, which provide electricity for the island and neighboring regions, sustained damage when the quake struck on Thursday, an energy department statement said. The geothermal plants, near the quake's epicenter, were damaged by both the tremors and resulting landslides, the department said.

Mongolia

Ruling party concedes defeat

Miyegombyn Enkhbold, candidate of the ruling Mongolian People's Party, acknowledged defeat in the second round of the country's presidential election on Friday. The MPP recognizes the outcome of Friday's election and respects the choice of the Mongolian people, Enkhbold, Mongolia's parliament speaker, said in his first statement after the release of preliminary results of the presidential run-off. Khaltmaa Battulga of the opposition Democratic Party, a businessman and former judoka, is poised to win the election with won more than 50 percent of votes, according to the preliminary results.

Spain

Four hurt at bull-run festival

Four people were hurt, but none gored, on Sunday on the third day of the week-long San Fermin festival in northern Spain in which bulls chase red-scarved runners through the streets of Pamplona. The run, which on Sunday included bulls from the Puerto de San Lorenzo ranch, was quick at just 2 minutes and 22 seconds. The daily bull run starts at 8 am (0600 GMT) and usually lasts between three and five minutes. There are eight runs in total during the festival, which ends on July 14.

India

City added to UNESCO list

Ahmedabad, a city in the western state of Gujarat, has been declared as India's first World Heritage city by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. "Just inscribed as UNESCO world heritage site: Historic city of Ahmedabad #India," UNESCO tweeted on Saturday. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who just returned home after a two-nation tour of Israel and Germany, expressed happiness at the development.
