Officials to brief media on poverty alleviation program

The State Council Information Office will hold a media briefing on how the Internet Plus strategy is helping alleviate poverty. Hong Tianyun, deputy director of the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development, will attend. Last year, the number of people living in poverty nationwide was reduced by 12 million to 43 million. Efforts are underway to lift another 10 million out of poverty this year, according to the Government Work Report.

Bullet trains to link Beijing with the Xiongan New Area

Passengers can take bullet trains for the first time from Beijing to the Xiongan New Area, starting Thursday, according to the China Railway Corp. The journey will take about 80 minutes from Beijing South Station to Baoding Station in Hebei province. About 100 kilometers southwest of Beijing, the Xiongan New Area covers Xiongxian, Rongcheng and Anxin counties in Hebei. Its development was announced by the government in April.

Central bank to release data on forex reserves for June

On Friday, the People's Bank of China is expected to release data on the country's foreign currency reserves for last month. Last year, forex reserves fell sharply due to capital outflows and government efforts to prop up the yuan. The reserves have stabilized since then.

BRICS health ministers to discuss TCM cooperation

The seventh BRICS Health Ministers Meeting will be held in Tianjin on Thursday and Friday. It will focus on international cooperation on the development of traditional Chinese medicine. Hundreds of delegates from the BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - will attend. It is the second time China has hosted such a meeting.
