Zhang Lianqi, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and a senior consultant with the Center for China and Globalization, a think tank in Beijing

Chinese customers have greater demand for innovative products that many local producers, especially in the traditional manufacturing sector, are not yet able to provide. Enterprises in the manufacturing sector are able to buy small and medium-sized foreign companies to provide a faster pace of industrial upgrading.

By taking advantage of high-technology and learning from mature business models in other countries, some businesses have quickly been able to stand out among other domestic outfits and created more cross-border business opportunities.

Ma Jilong, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and a former director of the sports equipment department of the General Administration of Sports

"With the development of the sports industry, a rising number of sports enthusiasts will upgrade their consumption from material products, such as sportswear and equipment, to intangible services, such as guidance on fitness training, renting sports venues for exercise and watching pro-sports events. In this way, the total scale of consumer spending will be boosted across the sector. The shift in sports consumption has posed a challenge for the entire industry to diversify the products and services it offers, which echoes the government's call for supply-side structural reform."

Guo Guangchang, a member of the CPPCC National Committee and chairman of Fosun Group
